About

Fab Lab History Timeline

This project collects photos and short videos from across the Fab Lab network to build a shared visual timeline. The goal is to preserve milestones, document local stories, and make it easier to browse the history of labs, events, machines, people, and projects over time.

What To Upload

  • Photos of labs, events, people, tools, workshops, and prototypes.
  • Short videos that capture a moment, process, demonstration, or event.
  • Media with an accurate date, title, caption, and location whenever possible.
  • Material you have the right to share publicly.

Upload Limits

  • Accepted formats: images and videos only.
  • Maximum file size: 30 MB per upload.
  • Maximum video duration: 45 seconds.
  • Sign-in with fablabs.io is required before uploading.

How Media Is Handled

Uploaded images are sanitized before storage and thumbnails are generated for browsing.

Uploaded videos keep their original file, and a preview frame is generated for the timeline.

Submissions enter moderation before they appear publicly on the timeline.

Submission Tips

  • Use concise titles that make sense years from now.
  • Add context in the caption: who, where, what happened, and why it mattered.
  • Prefer a few strong uploads over many near-duplicates.
  • Check dates carefully so the timeline stays historically useful.
